central avenue about 6:50 tuesday morning when he was thought and fatally wounded, the second prince george's high school county student murdered under mysterious consequences in three weeks. amber stanley was shot to death august 22nd in her home. both crimes remain unsolved. this latest murder has been tough on the students, marring the start of the school year, but it's been even tougher on the parents. >> it affects us. it affects the parents. it affects the whole community. >> reporter: at central high school, the death of ross cast a shadow over back-to-school night. police asked the assembled parents for help. >> parents communicating with their children and bringing information to us, if there's any issues or any information that they have, then we really need it to come forward. >> reporter: for the friends and family ross leaves behind, grieving his loss will take a very long time. in capital heights, jackie

benson, news4. protests continue late into the night at u.s. embassies, as new details emerge about the americans killed in libya. this is the scene in cairo, egypt, with hundreds of protestors still outside. the outrage over an anltty-islam video produced in the u.s. has sparked angry demonstrations in 11 nations. we've just learn thad two former navy s.e.a.l.s are among the four americans killed in that attack on the embassy in benghazi. glen dougherty and tyrone woods were both working as security contractors. the state department writes that, as a registered nurse and paramedic, woods had the hands of a healer as well as the arms of a warrior. dougherty's family says he was part of the team that rescued private jessica lynch in iraq in 2003. four people have now been arrested in connection with the attack on the embassy. a developing story tonight in germantown, fuse caught fire knocking out power to more than 100 customers tonight, including a giant food store.

this is exclusive video shot by a viewer. the fuse was on clopper road here between germantown road and great seneca highway. police had to detour traffic if the area. the road is back open at this hour, and power is back on. now to northwest d.c. where mosquitoes are invading a neighborhood and raising fears about the west nile virus. tonight news4 took complaints from residents to a local council member. and tomorrow the department of health is planning to investigate. sha mary stone takes us to the scene. >> reporter: pex in this neighborhood say they are sick and tired of swatting mosquitoes on their skin. here is one of the breeding grounds. this is it a canopy keeper, used to water the trees, and folks out here tell me that the canopy keepers issued by the city are responsible for the mosquito invasion. >> it's been horrific. >> reporter: it's a nightmare on "m" street for everett, the m stands for mosquitoes. >> can't sit out anymore. it's just been awful. knowing someone who's had west

nile virus, last year, and is totally incapacitated, it's on your mind. >> reporter: people out here blame the d.c. government for the mosquitoes. they lay thousands of eggs in these city-issued canopy keepers. the water inside is used to water the "m" street trees. kara's concerned about getting the west nile virus when she walks lowell wilola. >> i come in with three or four bites. >> reporter: someone died from the virus last week. it's also problematic in virginia and maryland. >> what we don't want is the west nile virus coming to the district by way of this. >> reporter: tonight, council member evans called the department of health and the forestry division to investigate tomorrow morning. >> and figure out, is there a better way to do this so we don't have this reoccurring. >> experts say dump out standing water like what's here to help with mosquitoemosquitoes. they recommend long sleeves and mosquito repellent and avoid going out at dusk and dawn.

>> except for the mosquitos, it's a beautiful night outside right now. our weather wiis perfect. but storms are on the horizon. chief meteorologist doug cameron is tracking the change. of course we've had five great days of weather will. we're going to get a couple more. but then we have a big change in the forecast coming up over the next couple of days. right now 70 degrees out there, winds oust the stoouth at 6 mil an hour, an absolute gorgeous day followed by a great night. look at the numbers, down to 57 toward the western suburbs, winchester and martinsburg, 61 in gaithersburg. it will be another cool start to the morgue. as you're sending the kids off to the school bus, not bad at all. how about 52 in some of the coolest suburbs to about 63, as of the 8:00 hour tomorrow. you'll expect plenty of sunshine tomorrow, and i am expecting a fantastic friday. but there's a big storm on the horizon. i'll show you when that is coming up in the forecast. the post-convention campaign

season is in full swing today, and both sides are jockeying for position in key battleground states including virginia. a new "wall street journal" poll out tonight shows the president has the edge in several key states, in virg willing virg and florida he leads mitt romney by five points among likely voters. in ohio that's up to seven points. mitt romney was in fairfax today trying to refocus his campaign on the key issue of the economy. he talked tough on trade with china. >> they also steal our know-how, our at that time ebts. did you know they even have an apple store? it's a fake apple store, they sell counterfeit apple products. >> first lady michelle will obama was in virginia today, making campaign stops in richmond and fredericksburg, where she reminded supporters the president took the commonwealth four years ago. >> this room alone could swing an entire precinct for barack obama. >> both candidates opened their campaign events today by remembering the lives lost overseas in libya.

tonight at the university of maryland former redskins linebacker lavar arrington spoke out about the child sex abuse scandal 8 his alma mater. he took part in the panel discussion about penn state. former assistant coach jerry sandusky was convicted of abusing young boys and is in prison. legendary football coach joe paterno was fired and died from cancer a couple of months after the scandal surfaced. arrington talked of his continuing support of the university and the team. >> again, i continue to maintain that we are penn state thing because we are penn state. it's plural. it took all of us to make what that place represented. it wasn't one person. and that includes joe paterno. >> the panel discussion included talks about legal and athletic issues surrounding the scandal and the news coverage of it. a grieving father says he's devastated by the loss of an entire family. his daughter diana schmidt, her

husband christopher and their two little boys died in a chain reaction crash. they were moving from gaithersburg to california and driving across the country in separate cars. a tractor trailer hit chris' car in nebraska on sunday. his car pushed diana's toyota into another tractor trailer that burst intoflames. all four family members were killed. diana was seven months pregnant. the driver of the trablgtor trailer is charged tonight with manslaughter and is being held on a $1 million bond. an emotional good-bye today to the first man to set foot on the moon. more than 2,000 people packed the national will cathedral today to say good-bye to neil armstrong. former apollo 11 crew members buzz auld ren and michael collins attended the service. national cathedral holds special significance. its stained glass window is embedded with a moon rock armstrong and his crew brought to earth. tomorrow he'll be buried at sea.

no agreement in chicago. classes are canceled there after the school board and teachers union failed to reach a compromise. both sides are making headbay. tomorrow they'll meet with the illinois house of delegates to talk about recent contract proposals. if approved, students could return to school as early as monday. new york city says good-bye to super size sodas. the board of health in new york approved the bill that bans sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces. the rule only applies to drinks sold at stadiums, fast food restaurants and theaters. grocery stores and convenience stores are exempt. mayor michael bloomberg says the ban will save lives. opponents plan to fight it in court. a new ad campaign aims to create a better environment for transgender people. mayor vincent gray unveiled five advertisements that will be on display in the coming weeks, including photos of transgender people who live in the district. the message, to make sure

transgender have equal access to employment and housing and incidents of discrimination are reported to authorities. up next tonight -- it fell from the sky. now the search is on for the missing drone in d.c. and there's a reward for the person who finds it. thieves are conning renters out of thousands of dollars and you could be targeted even if you're not in the market for a new place. punished by police. why a mother was slapped with a tick

a local business owner lost his small remote-control drone over the weekend. now he's offering a $200 reward for those who trn it in. adam was using it last sunday when a gust of wind blew it out of remote control range. he's posted flyers trying to get it back. he thinks it crashed near 17th and florida in northwest. a mother in philadelphia is ready for a court fight after she was ticketed for letting her son pee in public. caroline raboy and her 2-year-old were not allowed to use a bathroom in a store on sunday so nathaniel ran out of the store and started to go near a light pole. his mother tried to redirect him. >> i tell him to go over to the grassy patch and make pee, and next thing you know i have an officer giving me a police ticket for public urination. >> when you've got to go, you

got to go. the officer said he thought the mom encouraged the boy to go. raboy prans to fight the ticket. this time of year is peak time for movers and scammers who want to take advantage of them. but before you fork over cash for that dream home you found online, the news4 iteam shows why you should do some digging into the deal. here ae's tisha thompson. >> reporter: moving to d.c. to work at the pebt of pentagon, a member of the u.s. navy thought he had found a great deal online. >> this gentleman happened to be part of the armed services, and that makes it even worse. >> reporter: a one-bedroom furnished apartment in this arlington building, utilities included. will the sailor filled out this application. all he had to do, send in $2,500 to cover the first month's rent and security deposit to the owner, sal gordon. >> when you google sal gordon, i'm it. >> reporter: but here's the problem. >> i have no idea where that is.

>> reporter: the real sal gordon doesn't own that property in arlington. he's actually an insurance salesman in montgomery village, maryland. >> they're using my wonderful mug without now, of course -- i had a beard then. >> reporter: the scammer used gordon's name and picture plucked off the web. >> it's upping the game, making it look for sophisticated and tying it to reality when in fact it's fraud. >> reporter: assistant special agent in charge trent says the fbi has people working on these types of complaints every day. >> in fact, today i received three just before our meeting. >> reporter: he says scammers are getting more sophisticated, using elaborate teams around the world. >> for the local police, they don't have the resources necessarily to trace it to another country. >> reporter: the news4 i-team found the phone number used in gordon's afd also listed in new york and miami beach rentals. >> i hate to think about these people who were conned, thinking about my name sal gordon, look what he did to me.

tomorrow? about the same temperature and same amount of sunshine, though i expect a few more clouds xtsz just gorgeous today, 81 degrees. eex of those days will go down as below average, and that is it the first time we've seen that, five days below average, in quite some time, although we don't mind it too. . just about perfect with that high temperature of 81 degrees. that is the average high now for today. 70 degrees the current temperature, winds out of the south at about 6 miles per hour. temperatures will be a little bit on the cool side once again when you wake up but not bad. 57 right now in martinsburg, the cool spot winchester 55, manassas and culpeper 55 and 60 along the river and the chesapeake down toward patuxent river. the radar picture not showing any rain. we won't see our chances of rain really increase until the day tomorrow and then really increase monday and into tuesday. here's why we'll see an increase tomorrow. we have a potent storm in through portions of texas, a lot of rain there. the frontal boundary associated with this front from chicago

back down through the wichita and kansas city area, that front will move our way. so high pressure still dominating. that means more nice weather overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow. i think a few more clouds tomorrow than we saw today ahead of this frontal boundary. and notice the rain chances, just a few showers out ahead of this front. this will move through overnight tomorrow night. so if you have plans for dinner tomorrow or maybe you'll go out and about, you may see a couple of sprinkles, maybe a quick 30-second shower, but that's going to be about it. then, on saturday, this moves through so quickly, saturday we get right back into the nice weather. talking about highs in the upper 70s with abundant sunshine, and that is not just for saturday. that's also sunday. we've got a great weekend in store. tomorrow morning, clear skies, another great start, cool early, though, 48 in the coldest suburbs to about 61 in the city. tomorrow afternoon, up into the 80s for just about everybody, some areas in the upper 70s but not bad. a fantastic friday, nice and warm, winds on the light side but they'll be gusting upwards 5

to 10 miles an hour tomorrow during the afternoon. saturday and sunday looking great, but, as i mentioned, make sure you have the umbrellas handy next week because i think monday and tuesday we could see a pretty big storm come through here. that storm could produce maybe 1 to 2 inches of rain, we could see 20, 30-mile-an-hour winds with that storm so we're talking about a pretty potent storm that will come up the coast. i don't think it's going to be too bad. then in behind it will be such a strong storm that behind it we get another great stretch of weather. so great stretch, two days of rain, great stretch. i like that. >> we can handle that. >> thanks, doug ff. >> coming up in sports tonight, redskins coaches are excited [ romney ] this president can ask us to be patient.
